Day 1 | Arrival in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu

Your Bhutanese adventure begins with one of the world's most spectacular Himalayan flights, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks before landing in the picturesque Paro Valley. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your tour guide from Bhutan Escapes Journeys and begin the scenic drive to Thimphu.

Depending on your arrival time, visit the revered National Memorial Chorten, one of the country's most important religious monuments, where local devotees gather daily for prayers and meditation. Spend the evening exploring the capital's charming streets and experiencing your first introduction to Bhutanese culture.

Day 2 | Discovering Thimphu's Cultural Heritage

Today is dedicated to exploring Bhutan's fascinating capital city. Visit the majestic Buddha Dordenma, one of the world's largest seated Buddha statues, offering panoramic views across the valley.

Continue to the renowned National Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students preserve Bhutan's thirteen traditional arts and crafts. Explore the fascinating Folk Heritage Museum and visit the grand Tashichho Dzong, the administrative and monastic seat of Bhutan. You may also visit the unique Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan's national animal.

Day 3 | Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass

After breakfast, travel towards the beautiful Punakha Valley via the spectacular Dochula Pass (3,100 metres). Decorated with 108 memorial chortens and offering stunning Himalayan views, the pass is among Bhutan's most iconic landscapes.

Descending into Punakha, visit the sacred Chimi Lhakhang, popularly known as the Temple of Fertility. Later, explore the magnificent Punakha Dzong, dramatically situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers and regarded as Bhutan's most beautiful fortress-monastery.

Day 4 | Exploring the Punakha Valley

Enjoy a full day discovering the cultural and natural beauty of Punakha. Begin with a scenic walk through rice terraces and rural villages to the beautiful Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning hilltop temple offering panoramic views of the valley.

Later, visit the famous Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, draped with colourful prayer flags and offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. Spend the remainder of the day enjoying Punakha's peaceful countryside and subtropical scenery.

Day 5 | Punakha to Bumthang – Through Bhutan's Scenic Heartland

Today embark on one of Bhutan's most spectacular journeys as you travel east towards the spiritual region of Bumthang. The drive traverses pristine forests, mountain passes, and picturesque valleys.

En route, pass through the historic town of Trongsa and visit the impressive Trongsa Dzong, strategically perched above a dramatic gorge and considered one of Bhutan's most historically significant fortresses. Continue through central Bhutan's scenic landscapes before arriving in Bumthang.

Day 6 | Exploring Bhutan's Spiritual Heartland

Spend the day discovering the sacred sites that make Bumthang Bhutan's spiritual centre. Visit the ancient Jambay Lhakhang, believed to have been built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo.

Continue to the revered Kurjey Lhakhang, associated with Guru Rinpoche, and the historic Tamshing Lhakhang, famous for its ancient Buddhist murals. Explore the majestic Jakar Dzong, known as the 'Castle of the White Bird,' overlooking the Chokhor Valley.

Additional highlights include visits to Kenchosum Lhakhang and the sacred Mebar Tsho, one of Bhutan's most revered pilgrimage sites.

Day 7 | Bumthang to Gangtey – Journey to the Black-Necked Crane Valley

After breakfast, begin your journey back towards western Bhutan through spectacular mountain landscapes and remote Himalayan villages. Cross scenic highland passes before arriving in the pristine glacial valley of Phobjikha.

Upon arrival, visit the magnificent Gangtey Monastery, one of Bhutan's most important Nyingma monasteries, beautifully overlooking the valley floor.

Day 8 | Gangtey Black-Necked Crane Festival Experience

Today is the highlight of the journey as you attend the celebrated Gangtey Black-Necked Crane Festival at Gangtey Monastery.

Enjoy traditional mask dances, crane-themed cultural performances, folk music, local community celebrations, and educational conservation programs dedicated to protecting the endangered Black-necked Crane. The festival offers a unique opportunity to witness Bhutan's harmonious relationship between culture, spirituality, and environmental conservation.

Later, enjoy a leisurely walk along the beautiful Gangtey Nature Trail, renowned for its spectacular views of wetlands, forests, and traditional farmhouses.

Day 9 | Gangtey to Paro

Following breakfast, travel through Bhutan's scenic valleys and mountain passes towards the picturesque town of Paro.

Upon arrival, explore the impressive Rinpung Dzong, renowned for its traditional Bhutanese architecture and rich cultural heritage. Continue to the fascinating National Museum of Bhutan, housed within the historic Ta Dzong watchtower.

The evening is free to explore Paro town and its traditional handicraft shops.

Day 10 | Tiger's Nest Monastery Experience

Today features Bhutan's most iconic experience—a hike to the legendary Paro Taktsang. Perched dramatically on a cliff face nearly 900 metres above the valley floor, this sacred monastery is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas.

The rewarding trek passes through pine forests and prayer-flag-lined trails, offering breathtaking views throughout the ascent. Following the hike, visit the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred temples. Time permitting, visit the historic ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, with magnificent views of the sacred Mount Jomolhari on clear days.

Day 11 | Departure from Paro

After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. Depart Bhutan with unforgettable memories of sacred monasteries, breathtaking valleys, vibrant cultural traditions, and the extraordinary experience of witnessing the Black-Necked Crane Festival in one of the Himalayas' most pristine landscapes.
