Day 1 | Arrival in Paro and Transfer to Thimphu

Your Bhutanese adventure begins with one of the world's most spectacular Himalayan flights, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks before landing in the picturesque Paro Valley. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your tour guide from Bhutan Escapes Journeys and begin the scenic drive to Thimphu.

En route, visit the historic Tamchog Lhakhang, renowned for its traditional iron suspension bridge built by the legendary Tibetan saint Thangtong Gyalpo. Upon arrival in Thimphu, explore some of the city's highlights, including the towering Buddha Dordenma, which overlooks the valley from a hilltop, and enjoy panoramic views of the capital. Depending on arrival time, visit the vibrant Craft Bazaar and local markets before checking into your hotel.

Day 2 | Thimphu Tshechu Festival Experience

Today is dedicated to experiencing the colorful festivities of the renowned Thimphu Tshechu, held within the courtyard of the historic Tashichho Dzong.

Witness an extraordinary display of sacred Cham dances performed by monks and lay performers dressed in elaborate silk costumes and intricately crafted masks. These ritual performances depict Buddhist teachings, legends, and protective deities and are believed to bestow blessings upon spectators. The festival atmosphere is vibrant and authentic, with Bhutanese families gathering in their finest traditional attire to celebrate their spiritual and cultural heritage.

Day 3 | Festival Celebrations and Thimphu Sightseeing

Enjoy another day at the spectacular Thimphu Tshechu, where different sacred dances and performances are showcased throughout the festival period.

In between festival activities, explore some of Thimphu's most important cultural attractions, including the revered National Memorial Chorten, one of the country's most visited religious monuments. Continue to the fascinating Folk Heritage Museum and the renowned National Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students preserve Bhutan's thirteen traditional arts and crafts.

Guests may also visit the unique Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan's national animal, the Takin.

Day 4 | Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the beautiful Punakha Valley. En route, cross the stunning Dochula Pass at an altitude of 3,100 metres. On clear days, enjoy breathtaking views of the snow-capped eastern Himalayas while exploring the iconic 108 memorial chortens that adorn the pass.

Descending into the subtropical Punakha Valley, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, strategically located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Considered Bhutan's most beautiful dzong, it serves as an important religious and historical centre.

If time permits, enjoy a walk across the impressive Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, offering scenic views of the surrounding valley.

Day 5 | Punakha to Paro

Following breakfast, return westward through Bhutan's scenic mountain landscapes towards the picturesque valley of Paro.

Upon arrival, visit the impressive Rinpung Dzong, a magnificent fortress-monastery known for its stunning Bhutanese architecture and historical significance. Continue to the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred temples, dating back to the 7th century.

Later, stroll through Paro town and explore local handicraft shops and traditional Bhutanese markets.

Day 6 | Cultural Sightseeing in Paro

The highlight of the day is an excursion to Bhutan's most iconic landmark, the legendary Paro Taktsang. Perched dramatically on a cliff approximately 900 metres above the valley floor, this sacred monastery is among the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan region.

The hike passes through pine forests adorned with prayer flags and offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Upon reaching the monastery, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking scenery and a profound sense of spirituality.

After descending, continue exploring Paro's cultural treasures with visits to the fascinating National Museum of Bhutan housed in the historic Ta Dzong watchtower, and the traditional Bhutanese farmhouse experience, offering insights into rural life and customs.
